“Mi casa es su casa” is the official policy for Houston, Texas Mayor, Sylvester Turner!
In an article published in the Houston Chronicle by: By Olivia P. Tallet, Turner insists that Houston “will continue to be a welcoming city.” In the same fashion (video statement) as Austin’s newly elected Travis County Sheriff, Sally Hernandez (aka “Sanctuary Sally”), Mayor Sylvester Turner has decided, Governor Greg Abbott’s word is meaningless in the City Of Houston. Houston receives annually, more than $245 million from both Federal and State funding for Houston’s failing budget practices.

Turner echoed the exact sentiment of sheriff Sally Hernandez by saying, “Regardless of what the legislation may be, the Houston Police Department is not going to profile people. We are not going to be ICE. Period. End of discussion. It’s not going to happen, irrespective of what the legislature or anybody else may say.”
Turner also stated, “We need to be concerned with everything that has been said. Suddenly we have to be concerned with the actions and words that are coming out of D.C. We have to be concerned with the actions coming out of the state of Texas (Austin). I am concerned about that.”

It is not as big of an issue for a mayor as it would be for a sheriff. The only people serving sentences in the city jail are folks with traffic tickets only. Anything higher than a class C will be transferred to the county jail. But if the sheriff won’t hold them for ICE, they may be released at the end of their sentence or on bond and not be seen again.
